The footfalls behind me ceased, and I turned to see who the female was, although my mind was focused on reeling in my suddenly chaotic wolf.
The breath left my body as my wolf howled, my gaze locking with the green-eyed brunette standing with Clarence.
Mine. My mate.

Chapter One Look Inside
Chapter One Look Inside
“This is insane,” I mumbled for the millionth time to myself as I drove through the darkness, the high beams on my shitty little sedan struggling to light my way through the forested area.
I tapped my finger on the steering wheel, the chipped red nail polish proving to me that my nerves were already getting to be too much. I’d tried to do my nails nice for this matchmaking ordeal, but I’d chewed them as per usual, and now they were brandishing their warrior scars.
I was a jittery mess, still wrapping my head around everything Regina had told me.
I’d been struggling badly to make ends meet after my ex left me high and dry, ditching me with rent and utilities I could barely afford on my own after he’d found a pretty new bimbo to chase.
I had already maxed out my credit card, racking up a debt that was threatening to consume me as I floundered.
And, like the world was finally granting me some breathing room, Regina had called with an offer.
I’d entertained the idea, meeting her at my place for coffee that she brought with her, and discovering a magical world of witches and werewolves right under my nose.
Dating had been the farthest thing from my mind lately. I was too busy trying not to drown under bills, but she’d promised me that my credit card would get paid off and my bills caught up on if I went along with this matchmaking thing.
She’d matched me with their final werewolf, the Pack now having all claimed mates.
She’d explained it to me thoroughly, shown me the money getting transferred into my account instantly to help me out, and told me all about the man she’d paired me with.
Jamie Connors, one of the youngest of the Pack in his mid twenties.
My heart fluttered at the thought. I’d not had the greatest luck with men ever since my senior year, where the man who I thought would be my high school sweetheart dumped me before college and moved across the country. After that, there was a string of users, men who jumped ship as soon as something better came along.
I’d joked with my friends that I was just a foster girlfriend, but it was starting to get me down.
Was this Jamie guy the answer to my struggles?
Hell, the whole prospect of being matched with a werewolf was sure to take anyone for a spin.
I reached for the volume button, turning up the country song blasting over my stereo.
Werewolves and witches. It was crazy to think they were real, but Regina had proved it to be true with her magic on display.
