Chapter One Look Inside

Those two are close,” Eli noted as he looked off in the direction Regina and Wyatt had gone.
“They go back,” I stated as I took a hefty swig of my beer and sat down beside him. Patrick had decided to head off with Jamie to fix something at his cabin, a two man job only, so we remained with the leftovers of Eli’s smoking venture for the day.
I’d started to enjoy helping him, picking up on everything he taught me. I wanted to learn new things to keep my mind off whatever the hell was going on with me, something I wanted to talk to Regina about again. I needed her help now that it was getting worse.
“You think there’s more to it?” Eli mused between mouthfuls of smoked pork.
“Probably.” It was clear the pair were close, and we’d sensed Wyatt’s wolf, how it reacted to her. There was something there, but I wouldn’t press. It wasn’t my place to question our Alpha.
“You okay? You’ve been acting differently.” Eli’s attention was now focused on me. Great, maybe I should have entertained his questions about Wyatt and Regina.
“I’m fine.”
“Benny, I’ve been with you all day. I can tell something’s eating at you. You went weird when Scott and Liz popped by. We can all sense something,” Eli stated as he set his beer down. “Don’t bottle it up, you need to talk these things out.”
“That what your old shrink said?” I muttered, and Eli just sighed. Sure, it wasn’t something I should’ve targeted, but it was no secret he’d seen a shrink a few times before joining our Pack.
“I just know it can help. We’re Pack brothers, we look out for one another.”
“I’m fine, I’m talking about it with people,” I growled, my wolf simmering beneath the surface. I’d spoken to Wyatt and Regina about my issues, and that had been painful enough. I didn’t need to share it again. I was tired of trying to figure out what was going on. I just hoped Regina could help fix whatever was broken with my wolf.
“That’s good, as long as you’re talking to someone,” Eli said as he leaned back. “I’m always here if you need to chat though.”
I softened as I focused on his easy-going smile. Eli was a good one, hell, they all were, and I couldn’t fault him for it. He meant well.
“Thanks.”
“Any time.”
“Benny!” I turned to see Wyatt and Regina returning, and I rose at the call of my Alpha to meet him out on the grass.
“Regina wants to adjust your bracelet, that good?” Wyatt said as I strode over to the pair.
“If it helps, it helps,” I said, and Regina held out her hand.
I unclasped the bracelet and handed it over as Wyatt slapped a hand down on my shoulder.
“Doing okay today?” he checked, and I just nodded. Was everyone suddenly worried about me? I hated feeling like I was causing concern amongst my Pack. Liz had even asked how I was doing, and I’d just mumbled something before moving away from her.
How could I tell her that my wolf was furious, enraged at her sheer presence, a mix of frustration, arousal, and anger? It made no sense, and I had no idea how to force it all down. It’d started up when Dahlia had arrived, just a niggle at first, but with each new woman that mated into the Pack, my wolf grew more agitated. Like I was angry at them, which was bizarre and uncalled for. It made no goddamn sense. I wanted to be happy for my Pack, for their joy and delight.
